The Revolution Revs Up
Chapter Five in the ongoing fictional account of America's decent into Hell under the current administration.
“Billy Ray, we don’t got much in the way of supplies in the truck. How long you think we can hide out up here?”
“Well now, I been thinking on it a might, Clyde, while we was high tailing it up here. There’s a town about 20 miles or so down the road. By my reckoning, we ought to be good for about a day or two. There’s at least six cases of Bud in the truck, and the fishing gear, along with all the loot we got from the last pit stop. One of us can go into the closet town and buy some grub tomorrow. The night after, we tie up the little hole so she don’t get no ideas. Then, we go to robbing the closet town in the other direction. If we stick to the po-dunks, we should be good. Everyone’s so wound up about the mark in the Bible belt they won’t care too much about some petty crime. Hell, since we already got it, half the cops might just let us go even if they caught us. If not… One less cop. If we don't find that bitch we saw up here before, and I don't see her round nowhere now, I'm getting me some tail too!”
Clyde’s smile was toothier than Billy Ray’s.
Kelly couldn’t believe her ears.
She was tired and her face hurt where that goon had bitch slapped her. She had been praying the whole time since she woke up to find a way to escape from these maniacs. Her mother must be tore up with worrying about her. She knew she should be scared out of her mind. She wasn't. She was getting more and more angry by the second, but she knew she had to be smart. These men were big and had no morals that she could detect. She had God on her side.
She had been acting much more out of it and weak than she was. She was hoping that would buy her some time. Having rough housed with her older brother for years had taught her that playing the weak little girl often worked. But then, he actually cared about her. These men didn't.
She knew they were headed for the old shack just in front of them. The smelly goon, Clyde, had his paw on her arm dragging her. She figured if she timed it right, she could give him a chop straight to the throat and drop him long enough to run. She was fast and had won medals in track for the last two years in a row. The problem was the other one. Billy Ray seemed to actually have some sense, not to mention a gun. They each had a gun.
“God, you know I never tried to really hurt anyone. I don’t see a way out of this without hurting one of these guys, at least. If I wait, I’m going to get raped. Please, help me.”
I can hear the twigs crunching under their feet.
So many thoughts go through my mind all at once. They will be inside any second. I don’t want to have to shoot anyone. I won’t let them hurt that girl. How scared she must be. Her poor parents must be out of their minds over her. Maybe, if I tell them from back here I have a gun on them, they will leave and let her alone. Yea, and maybe if I do, they will just wait outside for an opportunity to strike. Where’s David? God, please bring him back. He would know what to do. No! Don’t bring him yet. He might get hurt. Please, just keep him safe. I can’t watch them hurt that girl!
Watered down twilight streams in as the door is kicked open...
Donna Cosmato
Carol was still crying, though in silent prayer now.
Donna felt as if the weight of the world was on them. She just kept going. They were getting close to the turn off now. There was to be an armed guard watching for her. She could not help reminding herself to keep an eye out for him. She had turned the headlights off some ten miles back as she had been instructed to do on the off chance something happened and she was late. Everyone knew it would be afternoon before she arrived but it was much later than anyone had planned for.
She was worried she might not see the guard and hit him with the truck. It will most likely be James she thought. He has the most experience with weapons so it made sense they would pick him. He would be listening for the sound of the engine. What if it wasn't him? What if it were one of the younger men, like maybe Chad? Chad had never held a gun in his life, never worked outside an office. He might not think to use all of his senses. He might just be deluded enough by testosterone to actually stand in the middle of the road! God, please strengthen my eyes she sent up in in her mind as she slowed to a crawl to look for the turn off.
In the back the boys were whispering.
They weren't about to take a chance on the grownups in the front hearing them. Luke had not yet stopped crying to himself. Mark was clenching his jaw to the point of pain. Someone had Kelly. His little sister was annoying as they come, but she was family, and he loved her. While he couldn't hear her anymore, he knew his mother. She would still be crying and praying for his baby sister.
Duh!
Maybe they could track it all through the computers! Why hadn't he thought of that before now? He whispered his plan to the other boys. Luke actually smiled through his tears. He was the first to load a relevant sight. In seconds he was in the tiny town’s police department computers and had the report of Kelly’s taking on the screen. There were two men involved. They were believed to be one Clyde Hockersmith and an unknown man. It seemed Clyde had lost his wallet at the scene of the crime. Mark wondered if the man was smart enough to have even noticed. He sent up a silent prayer.
“Dear God please be with Kelly. She’s little but she’s feisty. We got in so much trouble for roughhousing and play fighting when we were little. Please, help her remember all the dirty fighting I taught her from the thousands of wrestling matches, war movies, and other dumb things I have wasted my time on. Please keep her safe and bring her back to us unharmed. Oh! And God, please, make her remember not to go for the obvious knee to the privates. She‘s not big enough to put enough behind it. Make her remember to go for the throat.”
Luke was already expanding his hacking of cop shops outward from the small town in ever larger concentric circles looking for any report of a vehicle matching the description of the one with the men who stole Kelly. From a cursory glance at the screen, Mark gathered he was looking for any reports of wrecks or dangerous driving, as well as reports of anyone matching the descriptions of the men in question or of Kelly. Mark was always floored by how fast Luke was. He read at lightening speed and did math faster than that. When typing, his fingers were just a blur on the keys. Hope began to grow in his heart. If there was any kind of trail in cyberspace, Luke would find it.
Bingo!
There was a report of two men matching the description in question in a tiny little town not far at all from where they were headed. It seems the two bought a case of beer and had some pretty lewd comments for the girl behind the register. She had called the police after they left when she noticed a boat load of junk food like beef jerky and peanuts were missing from the shelves in the back near the sodas. The police had not made an official report yet, but the call was logged. Luke had even managed to load up the actual call itself and they all took turns with the earphone to listen. It wasn't easy to hear over the trucks engine. They had to keep the volume low even with the earphone. No sense taking a chance. Mom had ears like Eagles had eyes.
James a.k.a. SubRon7
Half way across the country
James, a.k.a. SubRon7, was on a computer at a friend’s house. He was reading on Hub-pages and getting more and more pissed off by the minute that he could not log in. It would be a dead give away as to where he was and he was being hunted by the Protection Troopers. In fact, he was the number one most wanted man in Obamica. Well hell, he thought to himself, I always did want to be famous.
A wry smile quickly faded from his face when he saw the Butcher’s Bill.
Blake
Blake4d
Blake was a truly versatile hubber who wrote on topics ranging from all religions, to aliens, to current social trends, and rituals of all kinds. He had a unique gift at making associations most others missed and backing them up with sound logic. He authored one of the most famous, actual real life interview with a vampire in Hubdom. Blake was superior in his research skills and never left us wanting for more documentation. His imagination was second to none as evidenced by his deep poetry and short stories. Not only will Blake be missed on Hub-pages, but all over the Internet. He wrote at many venues and had a stellar blog.
BHO News Network reported this morning that he was shot by Protection Troopers in California when captured shop lifting. He did not have the mark of protection and screamed at the Troopers he never would when they tried to capture him. They shot him in self defense according to the report.
We love you Blake. Your words will live on here as long as we can keep the site up and going. They will live on in your followers hearts and minds long after that.
James bowed his head in respect.
He couldn't take it anymore. When he got up to get a cold one, he told his buddy he was done looking at the Internet for now so Ken hopped on the machine. Ken had been looking to buy an old Jeep. He wanted something pre-computer chip. He had to get it in a matter of days before cash was outlawed so he booted up Craig’s List. It was not a site he frequented. He heard a week or so back you could work a deal fast there and had garnered some leads over the past few days.
He hit the link to the Jeep he thought would meet his needs best. For the first time, the name of the seller caught his attention, Preacher Trucker4God. Funny, he thought. I should have picked up on that. There was another link posted to the man so he clicked it just as James was sitting back down at the rickety old table with a fresh beer for each of them.
When the page loaded all it had on it was a poem and an email link.
Welcome, all God’s children to my little page.
The devils in Obamica. It’s the latest rage.
Do you need now a way out?
Need a way to move about?
I’m a truck driving, mad as hell, fiend for God.
The damn Government shut down my best blog.
Shoot me off some misspelled email.
I’ll come get you come rain or hail.
Friends, we got to stick together now.
It’s the only way to help I know how.
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
“James! This is it. This is how you can get to the hill.”
James had shared his plan with Ken. He wanted to somehow get to the capitol in time to save at least some of those scheduled for slaughter tomorrow night. Problem was he had no idea how to get there without the mark and no idea of what to do once he did. But more and more he felt an itch to get moving, almost like God was shoving him in that direction.
“What have you got to lose? We’re both going to die if we get caught anywhere without the mark. We are not going to take it, so why not take a chance.” The men looked at each other. James reached over and clicked the link.
James liked to play word games. so he typed…
If you are what you say you are, you’re the man for me.
If not, I’ll take you down with me. Come find out and see.
I need to get to where the action is.
Let’s see if you’re a decent math whiz.
James typed in a mathematical puzzle that when solved gave longitude and latitude coordinates for Ken’s place. They smiled at each other conspiratorially and James hit send. Cold beer had never tasted as good as it did right then.
At the same time in yet another state…
Blake could not believe his eyes. What the ever living Hell is this? Blake was looking at his own obituary on Hub-page’s latest update of the Butcher’s Bill.
“I’m not dead! Shit! What the f_ck is this?” Blake had gone underground two weeks ago but he had not faked his death. “I’m not even in California. Why would they say this?” Blake had always had a habit of talking out loud to the computer.
He knew the government was onto him when they shut down his blog. He wasn't sure why they would leak a false report of his death though. Maybe, they want to make it look like I am dead thinking I will be dumb enough to think I'm safe now and make a new post. Then, they can track me.
“Think again Mother F_ckers!” The very idea insulted his intelligence, bad move on their part. The juiciest idea started a brewing in his sometimes dark mind and he smiled. Little did he know anyone having seen that smile would have been chilled to the bone.
Blake was about to head to the capitol. He just had to gather up a few things, and shave his head to mask his appearance as much as he could. He would be out the door in less than an hour. He figured he could hitch his way there. As he was about to close the screen he accidentally hit a favorites link to Craig’s list. Just as a fluke he typed in need a ride and clicked search.
“The universe does provide.” A poem and email link to a man who went by the name of Preacher Trucker4God had loaded. Blake had always trusted his instincts. He knew this was his ticket and stared firing off a strangely worded email that could be understood by a human, but would confuse a bot. He knew all ISP addresses were too easily trackable, so he had to work a little computer magic first, but he got it out in record time. It would bounce all over the world first, but it would end up in the right box. Now, he just had to hope the guy was for real and diligent about checking his email, not to mention, not too far away.
Todd
Back in Texas…
Todd was just coming to consciousness. His head felt like he had been on a three week binge. When he tried to put his hand to his forehead, he couldn't. That woke him up some. His mind was foggy. He could barely crack his eyes open. Squinting and turning his head revealed his arm was chained. Coming around faster and faster out of panic he noticed so was his other hand and both legs in spread Eagle fashion. Panic was setting in fast. Breathe he told himself. Stay calm. You have to think.
He tried to remember where he was last, how he got here. Where the hell was here? Nothing was coming to him. The last thing he remember was being at the bar with some friends slugging back a few cold ones. He didn't think he had drank that much. They had just been hanging out when that drop dead gorgeous, blond, bombshell asked if she could sit with him. What was her name? He couldn't remember. She said some guy she had dated was stalking her and she didn't want to look like she was alone if he showed up. Of course, him and his friends rose to the occasion and told her to grab a seat. He remembered flirting with her for a while and then dancing with her…
Oh, shit!
What the hell? Staring up at the cheap ceiling tiles he noticed one was oh so slowly moving. When it was pulled back all the way a girl stuck her head through glaring at him. “About damn time you woke up. I been waiting forever! Wanta get outta this shit hole or are you anxious to be a lab rat?”
Disclaimer: The story above is fiction. It uses current social and political conditions but still is fiction. I am not saying this will happen or any of the key players are actually as portrayed.
Commentary:
No doubt you have heard, at some point over the last week, that the Roman Catholic Church and other religious groups are ten kinds of ticked off at the President. They are upset at the requirement of what is referred to in layman’s terms as Obama-care’s mandate for them to now have to carry insurance providing free birth control, the Morning After Pill, and other such controversial things for their employees. Not only are they beyond offended at this requirement, but further, over the fact that he promised them it would not be required of them in order to garner their support of Obama-care at its inception.
Good ole George
If freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to slaughter.
George Washington
Recently, I heard the president has offered a compromise. Now, he proposes that insurance companies have to foot the bill. By extension that means that all of us who pay for it will have to. I don’t want pay for abortions. Without going into the whole pro choice/right to life debate, just sticking to the what my money goes for, I don’t want it going for that!
Frank Pastore uploaded on Youtube by: VANDERKOK
Open your eyes
Look at the countries that have socialized medicine for that is what Obama-care really is. Every one of them has a lower quality of care than the good old US of A. Ask a health care professional, that you trust, in private. Just listen to what they have to say. Our level of care will plummet if this is allowed to stand. But I digress. Let us get back to the issue of religious freedom.
This is an attack on just that, religious freedom. Now, I know many are saying no, it isn't. It has nothing to do with religion but with the rights to health care for all. Since when is abortion or birth control health care? It’s two services offered by health care providers, but neither is health care in and of itself. It infringes upon churches in a way that requires action that is in direct opposition to their beliefs. If allowed to stand it will open the door to further infringement until such time as the freedom of religion guaranteed in the Constitution goes the same way freedom of speech is going now, by the wayside into the annals of history.
Even Lady Liberty hangs her head in shame.
Lastly, what about the panel that will be determining who gets what care under Obama-care? You remember them, don’t you? They can and will deny care, or provide lesser care, to folks based on, among other criteria, age and contribution to society. Can you say bye bye Granny? And they said it was Republicans wanting to push little old ladies off the cliff! Do you really think those with developmental disabilities will be deemed as major contributors to society? The pot calls the kettle black from an ebony island!

I do not support the Occupy Movement but I won't say all of their ideas were wrong. They got the numbers part right. Notice all the brutality upon those who were already kneeling and cuffed. Were they really so dangerous at that point as to need mace in the face? Think about the messages sent. Messages of fear, of don't speak out, of don't dare protest. Forget that right is guaranteed under the Constitution.
In conclusion
Today's topic of commentary is but one example in the long list of attacks on freedom. There have been the attacks on of freedom of speech, including those aimed at control of the Internet hiding behind the guise of stopping piracy, (ACTA, SOPA, PIPA) among others, the attacks on privacy, (PA) so on and so forth. Every day they go further. Perhaps, none of that affects you.
Think on this. How long will it be before they restrict one that does affect you? Maybe you like the freedom to decide where you want to live? Maybe, you like the idea that you can pick your vocational choice? Perhaps, you like the idea you are, today, free to be open about your sexual preference? Do you like being able to decide what kind of music you listen to, what kind of books you want to read? I think you're getting the idea. Draw a line. Take a stand. Even if you are not affected yet, and you are even if you have not had your face rubbed in it yet, it's coming America. Count on it. Stand!
Join us! The party is just heating up.
Everyone is invited to party down in Obamica. I am still looking for new characters. If you would like to join the party, please, just email me that I have your permission to include your screen name and avatar. I regret you must be over 18 years of age to be included. It's not that I don't want you younger guys and gals, it's that I don't want to be sued.
Here's a shout out to all the brave volunteers that have jumped into the fray so far! You rule and are great Americans for standing up. You all do in your own ways.
Thank you!
Thank you more than I can express to the brave volunteers that we have met so far.

Poetvix I think Im caught up in your crazy world.. or is it caught up in me? hmmm...
Hi, first of all I am addicted to your story, and can't wait for the next one! being English I am not sure what you mean about the health situation, over here we are lucky, we have the National Health, its free, well, apart from taxes of course, and its brilliant, not sure if it could work in America as the country is so big, but the one thing that does drive me mad is religion, do you know that one, yes I said one atheist has called for prayers to be stopped at government meetings, its been done since elizabeth the firsts time, back in 1588, and would you believe it he won?! now prayers at the beginnings of meetings are no more! at the same time I read in my local paper about two kids, 11 and 12 years old, setting light to part of the cemetary! how the hell are they supposed to have respect for a religious site when we are no longer allowed to be Christian?! drives me insane! looking forward to the next installment! cheers nell
More scary words, Poetvix. I will mention one thing: We all ocassionally think back to our beginning as a country. It always is hard for me to comprehend what I will call "The First Men." The ideas they put forth, to create the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the list goes on. Where did they come from? We know where they came from, but, really, where "did" they come from?
Crap, I don’t know where to begin. I’ll start with your shout out. You’re not just a patriot, you have become a loyal friend. I know that we have a lot of respect for each other, and we have traded compliments to one another publicly and personally, but I will say this, both publicly and privately. “The longer I know you, the more I like you, and I liked you from get-go.” You are the real deal my friend. If I can live up to being half the man you just described, I’ll be twice the man that I’ve been. I’m going to give it a whirl.
Here’s a confession. You know that I have a habit of telling readers in the beginning of my hubs, not to skim me. I tell them that if they find themselves with the urge to skim, to just stop reading, vote me meet up, and hit the road. Otherwise, it will be obvious when they make a comment, and I will not hesitate to roast them. Here is the confession … (three dots thank you) I skim all the time. I’ve got some beautiful people who follow me, but they write long hubs on stuff I have no interest in. I’ve mastered the art of addressing their wonderful character, and note the razor like precision in which they get their ideas across. Stuff like that.
If I’m lying, I’m dying. I read every single word of your hubs. I love the suspense, I love the way you create a semi fictional story, while making all those warning signals in my brain go off. I’m honestly hoping that a few of those characters, especially the kids, get off the hook in the next part. I can’t wait for her to blow those freaks away.
I don’t know how you do so many different things so well. Your job is one of the most emotionally demanding jobs a person could have. You give those kids hundred and 110%. Then you go home, and the real ass whippin begins. Were going to get things done at the Project a little faster, and a little better now that you’re with us.
Love you, my sister (in a non creepy way) and tell the old man hi for me!

Another good installment Vix. I do hope you are printing as we all know how "reliable" technology is. I am actually picturing your works as I read. I have voices for the characters in my mind and all. That is how captivating your writing is. Sincerely, Matt.
Okay I am a Gemini, so maybe that explains how I am in two places at once. I hope I know what I'm getting ready to do on that roadtrip. Sounds like I must've started smoking grass again, my judgement was always lousy on weed. And apparently I am Mad at a Whole Buncha MotherF**kers!!!
I'm scared something bad is about to happen.
Oh and I love that I got busted for shoplifting in my California obituary. That would suck. LOL
Oh my, great job poetvix. I love it, can't wait for the further installments. Keep on Hubbing. Blake4d
poetvix - Great continuation again. You asked me for my thoughts on the latest attack on religious freedom. Rather than answer it here, you can find it @ my latest Hub.
The Frog
poetvix - Be careful. I know I'm hiding out in the woods in your story.
The Frog
I’d be more than happy to be a character, but it’s times like this when the man with no pants name sucks. How do you get something like that into a serious novel? lol Of course, you could go with Jimmy Lee Butcher. Crap, that would probably give me a part as one of Obama’s henchmen or something. (making goofy face)
jim
poetvix - You asked me before you even got started with this and I gave you my answer. I'm not going to repeat it here Hon.

Hi Poetvix
"They are upset at the requirement of what is referred to in layman’s terms as Obama-care’s mandate for them to now have to carry insurance providing free birth control, the Morning After Pill, and other such controversial things for their employees."
I didn't know this. Shaking my head. I have heard everything know. What is happening to the good old USA?
Voted up and awesome
Happy Valentine's Day :)
Rhonda, I just read this installment to my hubby. It's eerie how you seem to know me so well...worrying about hitting a guard is exactly the sort of thing I would do. Thanks for making me famous in my secret life as a fictional character:) Shared (of course) so my friends can see what I've been up to lately. Waiting for the next chapter impatiently...
Vix, you and Thoughtsandwiches are two of the best when including fellow hubbers in your series. Chapter five was real a nail biter. You really had it all in this one. Your not only a gutsy lady but an awesome creative writer as well.
Well I was yelling at my computer this morning, and it didn't bring me a bacon egg bagel, so I figured I must be hallucinating on the road again. Felt like you should know what being a dead man walking feels like. Oh by the way...oh you will see. Be back soon. Keep on Hubbing. Blake4d
I am getting really scared now poetvix. No updates, no idea where I am going, what to do about poor SubRon...We need information. The center does not hold...Keep on Hubbing.Blake4d
Vix, Wher are you have not heard from you on the pages in a while. Are you alright ?
Michael
Great story , great writing! Maybe the reason that so many don't see thier freedom disappearing, can be explained by the analogy of the frog that was boiled alive! A frog in in a pot of water, in which the heat is turned up so gradually that the frog doesn't jump out and instead is boiled to death!
"If freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to slaughter."
George Washington
The devil doesn't show up with a pitchfork and horns, he most likely will hide behind high minded rhetoric in political correctness, to squelch the First Admendment!
Vix this is a great series. I had writer's block since Christmas on my Euan series but the Highlander is back. I always fall back on my poetry to get the juices flowing again. It's my comfort zone. Next week is the six month anniversary of my brother's passing and I refuse to wallow in the grief. There is so much to live for, particularly saving our democracy from the corporatocracy. I would vote for you for president but they've taken my vote away from me. Five percent of the American citizenry has been disenfranchised on the basis of criminal convictions. Inalienable rights are those which cannot be taken away by the government: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Don't believe it. Lives of American citizens are being taken without due process of law every day with these drones-impersonal killing with no one responsible for murder. The battle for freedom must be waged by pen as the pen is mightier than the sword. Viva la free speech. Hugs.
We must stand firm, as we know the victory is already won! But we know it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better! In His Love, Faith Reaper
